Initially in August when Rocket announced that there in fact would be a DayZ Standalone released. He said it would be done in four months around Christmas. At that time the game’s security/anti-hack measures were weak and hackers were raiding servers left and right wreaking havoc on the DayZ community. This led many to have one thing to say about DayZ Standalone release, “Make it hacker free” Many questioned why Rocket needed to make a Standalone version and insisted he focus on his original mod and make it better before the DayZ Standalone Release. But, in order to make the game as secure as possible he had to make a game with his own code, without actually hacking/modding another game. If he made that mod someone could also make a hack/mod inside of it so the more loopholes that were closed the more that were opened. Obviously WarZ had just been released and the focus was on how WarZ was such a copy of DayZ just re-skinned and with slightly different mechanics. Rocket was furious and was in a dark place in his life. He made it his mission to have the foundation laid before the New Year. WarZ was released on Steam and everyone held their breath as the game was one of the first large games to ever be knocked off of the steam marketplace in less than 48 hours. The same thing happened, Hackers.
I see the DayZ Standalone Release coming before the end of April 2013. With Arma 3 being released in Alpha on March 5th there is no reason that the DayZ Standalone should wait. Many speculate that if the zombie mocap was just now happening that the release wont be until May-July, but to them I say nahhhh. I see Rocket and Bohemia giving Arma 3 2-3 weeks to make some initial sales and then announce the release date to the public. That would make sense mainly because of simple marketing/sales structure. You don’t want a huge project like Arma 3 to fall by the wayside until the sales level off a little bit. Rocket is also going to climb Everest and will be gone for quite some time. I think he wants his baby to be released and out of his hair so he can enjoy his Everest adventure. Don’t be too surprised if he comes back and we have some excellent footage and ideas for a snowy DayZ mod for the Standalone.
As Dean Hall continues to talk about his fascination and love of the extremely popular game Minecraft I have to wonder how similar it will be. Both games are essentially survival driven and can be played with either friends or as lone wolves. I have always had great fun playing Minecraft with my friends and building giant cities/buildings and even Major League Baseball Stadiums. That also can also be talking about a sleek and simple inventory system as well as pricing guideline. I see the initial price of the DayZ Standalone Release to be $20-30 and once the game is fully optimized and the updates have been added I think it will be an easy selling $59.99
