DayZ Bandit Hideouts

DayZ Bandit structures have already been discussed by Rocket. His hope is to allow players to construct buildings and other structures across the maps like Chernarus.  This is an idea that I have always believed would truly create great immersion into the game, being able to have a fortified base where you could essentially store your valuables and have them protected at the same time. If players were given the ability to create a locking system for their hideout you could almost safely leave your valuables and not worry about people wondering on to your camp. With the ability to build minor structures you would also have the ability to set traps for explorers to run into. Imagine coming back to your hideout to find that someone has been killed by your deathtrap? Thats probably an idea for another post but these hideouts could really boost the experience in this game. The question that limits this idea is how big can these fortresses/hideouts actually get. The world is over now as we know it and so the structures that the DayZ survivors are able to construct should not be very substantial. The hideouts should mostly consist of wooden barricades with barbwire and probably should only be two stories tall at the most. And of course you would be able to build storage units of some kind which could be locked with a password or maybe an in game key. To build all of this you would probably need a lot of supplies to do so as well, that way it could make the hideouts a rarer thing that only the most powerful bandit/survivor groups could build.

Things I believe that should be included with the building process:

  • Wooden barricades/walls
  • Barbed wire
  • Locking doors
  • Small watchtowers
  • Ladders/Stairs
  • Storage devices like chests, etc.
  • Different kinds of traps
  • Ability to build underground (one level)
  • Gun racks for storage/Ammo storage

DayZ Bandit Roadblocks/Forts

Another interesting game play mechanic would be for bandits to set up a fort or a roadblock close to a main road allowing them to hassle anybody passing their construct. These could also be used as a forward base from which they could stage raids on local towns and cities. People would essentially end up learning about these “road-side forts” and would start avoiding them at all costs, making it a huge trap for people who were new to the server and curious about the structure next to the road. These buildings should be allowed the same building process that I previously mentioned and possibly even be allowed to build across a road, fully blocking and rerouting the travel of people. This would really promote what a real apocalyptic type world would be like as people would group together and prey on other people. Like in the movie Book of Eli bandits would usually be hiding out or in a road side fort waiting for people to stroll by so they could take them unawares. It would provide a sense of power for the Dayz bandit groups and would garner fear across the entire server for the rest of the population.

Jute provides us with a look at a Bandit Stronghold in Lineage II It looks very similar to one of the run-down castles that are spread throughout of Chernarus.  http://jute.dreamhosters.com/lineageii/bestiary/Bandit_Stronghold
