The Dayz Mod was originally the only open world zombie game which made it such a huge success. So how real is to real in the case of a zombie apocalypse video game. The first question you have to ask is why do we play video games? Most of the time it is because they are fun, because they are new, and most of all because they are usually something we can’t do in real life. As of right now there is no place on planet earth where you can go to kill zombies. But what happens when the realism becomes too much in a video game? Certainly some group of gamers will flock to this kind of game because they are the hardcore type who love a difficult challenge. But another type of gamer, the one who really just wants to have fun without an added hassle of realism, will flee from a game like the DayZ mod because, in the end, they have to try too hard to succeed.
There are a lot more things that could be implemented into this game that would make it even more fun. What needs to be analyzed before implementation is if it increases the “fun factor” for the majority of the game’s populace. There are things that sound great on paper but make the game less enjoyable once they are implemented. Rocket is tasked with finding things that will make the game more realistic and fun in the same way.
