As Anticipation builds for the release date of the Standalone one of the real questions has been What about a mod for DayZ end game? Rocket, in his latest devblog entry was quoted saying this,
Endgame is an open question, and is something we will look at later once we have got the basics where we want them (player customization, controls, animations, zombies, loot spawn, attachments, disease, hacking, etc…). I’m personally not a fan of NPC’s but we have been keeping this available as an option for development. I kind of think using NPC’s is cheating in this context. I am sure we can come up with a more creative way of doing these kinds of events, working directly with the community. We want a mod for DayZ End Game!
The people of the DayZ community have spoken and the one thing everyone wants is an adventure. I’m talking a middle earth type of adventure where there are horrors no one has ever seen. I’ve got your attention right?
RAIGPrime from Reddit had an excellent Idea for such an EXPEDITION.
The idea is to have a location that is very remote, far enough away that it would require significant planning and cooperation to reach and rewarding enough to warrant the trip (that’s the tricky part). No roads, no gas stations, no resources at all along the expanse leading up to the location, too far for choppers to reach without significant re-fueling (support would have to be provided by other players and lots or prep).
Maybe some great divide (a la the Grand Canyon for the purposes of conceptualizing) between Chernarus proper and the destination, or the divide itself could be the feature.
Or, bear with me because I know how ludicrous this sounds, perhaps a really, really, really large mountain somewhere in the North – a feature that is not something you could run to the top of in 10 minutes, but a region of great risk/reward (though I believe that the-reward-is-the-challenge-the-challenge-is-the-reward but most players would require something more tangible – frankly I’d embark on the trip just “BECAUSE IT’S THERE.”).
I know that there has been mention of travelling to other islands in the future and I think that this would be pretty exciting as well.
At any rate, just a thought for the future.
Absolutely, if anyone ever played WarZ There was a section of the map called the hidden forest. In comparison the Hidden Forest was maybe a 20-30 minutes trip depending on where you spawned, but it had a sense of unknowing and danger. You see there was a little shack and inside the shack a rare gun would spawn. Ideally in DayZ there also would be a “LOOT CHEST” of some sort or like Everest and other mountains a checkin/photo opp spot.
An instance is an area that would be a completely separate part of the map which can only be accessible through certain areas of the map. For example you could make an instance following the path of The Gunslinger Roland of Gilead in the Dark Tower Series. Or follow the treacherous path to Mordor from J.R.R Tolkien. Not exactly the same story line or setting, but you see the magnitude of these journeys which could take days if not weeks to complete. Obviously these would be future implementation to the original Standalone version. I think the use of instances could further increase possibility of more friendly survivors. There will be players who do not have friends with the game. So they are going to have to make friends in order for them to experience the instances that are only accessible to say parties of four or more. I can see it now, “Any friendlies in Cherno looking to do the (Instance)?” Yes me! Lets do it brother add me on voice chat.
In this safe zone there will be nothing, but a physical barrier around you. Your guns will not fire, you will not be able to use items, so if you’re thinking you can come here and bandage yourself safely you are sadly mistaken and will bleed to death. Obviously you will have to have a group to be admitted in the safe zone so don’t even try it punk.
