I think the implementation of these items could drastically improve the survivors chance at being safe in the game and meeting new friends along the way. Most people know that when you first meet someone in a video game, especially DayZ, you are hesitant to become friendly and are always on guard. Well one way to alleviate these pressures is to give that other player one of your pairing walkie talkies or DayZ radios. This could show the other survivor that you don’t mean to harm them and you get to know each other through in game voice chat instead of having to minimize the game and login to Skype, Vent, TS, or Mumble you could have the option of putting your shortwave radio on a certain channel. The radio’s wouldn’t have a 25 mile radius, but they would be strong enough to keep your group engaged and safe in cities and other hostile areas. Another function could be to scan the frequencies to see if their is any chatter and spot out clan locations or strategic placements of ambushes. These items could potentially be a weapon and a savior leading many out of harms way and calling for backup at just the right time.
Here is what a shortwave radio really is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shortwave_radio
The one thing that pisses me and every other admin on a DayZ private server is Side Chat voice spammers. With the use of DayZ radios, you choose which channel to join in the game can have a function with a password so only the right people can join. These will be server bound and max channels can have up to ten people at a time. Key binding will be necessary in order to minimize potential ear-rape which may deter some from grabbing the item. This might be an update that is way in the future of the Standalone Release, but it is worth mentioning anyway. Gone are the days of side voice spamming and voice trolling only to be kicked and banned from every server that you join.
Here is an example of a Lingor Island recording while someone is trolling the absolute shit out of Streetridaz. Enjoy!
