Minor Implementation of DayZ Character Traits

Imagine your first time loading up the DayZ Standalone and as you login and create your somewhat custom DayZ character you have the option to pick a class. These classes would have minor traits and abilities to make them worth while, but would also aid survivors in more willing cooperation. I see it adding a very unique feature which could be more inviting to players in the MMO genre.

ElderGame.com gives a quick overview of what MMO players think about class structure and skills. http://www.eldergame.com/2011/01/classes-vs-open-skill-systems/

Possible Classes and Their Abilities

In real life before the zombie outbreak all survivors at one time were skilled tradesmen so why should they forget everything they learned in their former life?. When your car broke down you had a mechanic fix it. If you were sick you would go to a doctor or see a nurse. When you were hungry and you lived in the country you shot wild game to feed your family. Military men defend our nations everywhere throughout the world and their skills and training are never forgotten. DayZ Character traits would add a sense of realism to the game.

  • Mechanic- Your basic automobile specialist who does not require a toolbox to be able to fix vehicles. His special ability is that he can take parts/scrap material from other vehicles and use them to fix the car/truck of his choosing. He will be an asset to any team/clan and a minor, but major step in the direction of teaming up.
  • Nurse/Doctor- Your well trained doctor who does not require morphine to fix a broken bone. He just uses a bandage and some wood/sticks to make a makeshift splint/cast. His special ability is that he can perform any medical action with 100% success rate which (if implemented) would be crucial to any team/clan.
  • Hunter- You are a lonewolf and a skilled outdoors-man. You begin your DayZ adventure with a flint/steel and a hunting knife to be able to make fire and kill wild game. Your footsteps are quieter and you are harder to detect by zombies in a wooded area. Your special ability is camouflage. You have the ability to disguise your teammates with mud/leaves to give them a SLIGHT advantage in combat. Another huge asset to DayZ team.
  • Ex-Military- You are a weapons expert and have the knowledge to lead your team into battle (if you choose to) You have a pistol sidearm which can be switched to without having the already clunky process of switching weapons. Your special ability is weapons restoration. Meaning that guns that become unusable or inaccurate will be able to be restored and be back to working condition.

What Do You Think?

I would love any feedback or ideas about possible DayZ Character classes or special abilities. This community is what helped build DayZ so we should have a voice in what happens in the process of the Standalone release. I think these changes would not only help survivor cooperation, but it would be another cool way for teams to be well fitted for the zombie apocalypse.

The Standalone will have weapon degrading in it, but why not clothing, shoes, or body? These questions will be answered by me in my next blog which explains how degrading in general works on weaponry and even the body of a DayZSurvivor.
